What is Chiropractic?
Chiropractic is a healthcare profession that is protected by law and regulated by the General Chiropractic Council (GCC), a UK-wide statutory body established by Parliament to regulate the chiropractic profession. The GCC check that all chiropractors are properly qualified and fit to practice. Chiropractors train for 4-5 years at Masters degree level in order to offer the high level of skill that patients deserve. Chiropractic deals with problems and conditions that affect the spine and extremities as well as the nervous system, muscles and joints (the neuro-musculo-skeletal system). Chiropractic will reduce your pain, muscle spasms, and nerve irritation, so you can enjoy your life, pain free.
What it involves:
Methods: Mobilisation techniques, Spinal manipulative therapy, Sacro occipital Technique, soft tissue work, acupunture, Sports taping and many others.
Back in Shape Chiropractic also offers Acupuncture. As well as being qualified in Chiropractic, Liz Garvey is qualified in British Medical Acupuncture and a registered member of the British Medical Acupuncture Society. There is a great deal of Western scientific research into pain, that has helped us understand how acupuncture might work. In particular, we know that acupuncture causes the release of natural pain-killing and healing chemicals within our bodies. In other words, acupuncture appears to help our bodies to heal themselves.
Please see the following article for a scientific view of Acupuncture:

Approximately 50% of all expectant mothers develop lower back pain at some point during their pregnancies, according to recent studies. During the third trimester, when your baby’s body gains the most weight, it can be particularly difficult. Due to your center of gravity shifting and the extra weight of the baby, the lower spine can increase its curve and the pelvis can shift and twist, adding extra stress to the joints and tissues.
Chiropractic Care throughout pregnancy is very gentle and can help realign the pelvis and reduce the stress on the spine, pelvis and hips, as well give your baby the room it needs to grow and develop, facilitating an easier, safer delivery.
Liz has also attended post graduate chiropractic paediatric courses allowing her to treat babies. Treatment consists of gentle cranial, spinal and visceral paediatric techniques.
